Host–Guest Interactions of Sodiumsulfonatomethyleneresorcinarene and Quaternary Ammonium Halides: An Experimental–Computational Analysis of the Guest…
2020
The molecular recognition of nine quaternary alkyl- and aryl-ammonium halides (Bn) by two different receptors, Calkyl-tetrasodiumsulfonatomethyleneresorcinarene (An), were studied in solution using...
Computational Analysis of Clinical and Molecular Markers and New Theranostic Possibilities in Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma
2020
Primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) is a paramount cause of irreversible visual disability worldwide. We focus on identifying clinical and molecular facts that may help elucidating the pathogenic mechanisms of the disease. By using ophthalmological approaches (biomicroscopy, ocular fundus, optical coherence tomography, and perimetry) and experimental tests (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and Western blot/immunoblotting) directed to evaluate the oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis, and neurodegeneration processes, we gather information to build a network of data to perform a computational bioinformatics analysis. Our results sho…
Numerical simulations on periprosthetic bone remodeling: a systematic review
2021
Abstract Background and objective The aim of the present study was to review the literature concerning the analysis of periprosthetic bone remodeling through finite element (FE) simulation. Methods A systematic review was conducted on 9 databases, taking into account a ten-year time period (from 2009 until 2020). The inclusion criteria were: articles published in English, publication date after 2009, full text articles, articles containing the keywords both in the abstract and in the title. The articles were classified through the following parameters: dimensionality of the simulation, modelling of the bone-prosthesis interface, output parameters, type of simulated prosthesis, bone remodeli…
Hierarchical imaging and computational analysis of three-dimensional vascular network architecture in the entire postnatal and adult mouse brain
2021
The formation of new blood vessels and the establishment of vascular networks are crucial during brain development, in the adult healthy brain, as well as in various diseases of the central nervous system. Here, we describe a step-by-step protocol for our recently developed method that enables hierarchical imaging and computational analysis of vascular networks in postnatal and adult mouse brains. The different stages of the procedure include resin-based vascular corrosion casting, scanning electron microscopy, synchrotron radiation and desktop microcomputed tomography imaging, and computational network analysis. Combining these methods enables detailed visualization and quantification of t…
Computational analysis to predict false-lumen perfusion and outcome of type B aortic dissection.
2014
We have attempted to identify potential predictors foracute and late aortic events starting from admission computed tomographic images.
'How Might Students engage with broader cultural questions relating to the circulation consumption, censorship, and reception of Decadent texts?'
2022
This paper explores the distribution of ‘Decadence’ ‘France’ ‘Decadent’ ‘French’ in British newspapers between 1890 and 1899 by relying on britishnewspaperarchive.co.ok It shows how the adjective was variously used in different contexts and how French Decadence was considered between 1880 and 1900.Not all 'decadence'/'decadent' was Decadent.Conversely exploring 'Décadence' in French periodicals yields different results but both digital repositories used in this research show that the noun was first used in a historical context.
Multivariate statistical analysis of a large odorants database aimed at revealing similarities and links between odorants and odors
2017
International audience; The perception of odor is an important component of smell; the first step of odor detection, and the discrimination of structurally diverse odorants depends on their interactions with olfactory receptors (ORs). Indeed, the perception of an odor's quality results from a combinatorial coding, in which the deciphering remains a major challenge. Several studies have successfully established links between odors and odorants by categorizing and classifying data. Hence, the categorization of odors appears to be a promising way to manage odors. In the proposed study, we performed a computational analysis using odor descriptions of the odorants present in Flavor-Base 9th Edit…
Computational analysis of positron experiments
1984
A number of applications of the calculational scheme developed by Puska and Nieminen (1982-3) are reported and the predictive power of the scheme is substantiated. Effects on positron parameters of relaxation and of N or H impurities in vacancies in Mo are calculated and employed to analyse recent experiments. Predictions pertaining to H decoration of vacancies in Al and Ni suggest the use of positron lifetime studies of these systems. Positron responses to submicroscopic vacancy clusters decorated with Kr and to large Kr bubbles in Cu are calculated and used to analyse recent experiments. To accomplish this the scheme is generalised to incorporate crystals of inert gas. In turn this makes …
Working the fields of big data : Using big-data-augmented online ethnography to study candidate–candidate interaction at election time
2017
The paper proposes big-data-augmented ethnography as a novel mixed-methods approach to studying political discussions in a hybrid media system. Using such empirical setup, the authors examined candidate–candidate online interaction during election campaigning. Candidate–candidate interaction crossing party boundaries is scarce and occurs in the form of negative campaigning via social media, with the shaming of rival candidates and engaging in battles with them. The authors posit that ethnographic observations can be used to contextualize the computational analysis of large data sets, while computational analysis can be applied to validate and generalize the findings made through ethnography…
Towards Big Data: Digitising Economic and Business History
2020
This chapter describes the experiences in computational and digital history of economic and business historians who for decades have been forerunners in digital history data gathering and computational analysis. It attempts to discuss the major developments within this area internationally and, in some specific cases, in Finland in the fields of digital economic and business history. It concentrates on a number of research projects that the authors have previously been involved in, as well as research outcomes by other economic and business historians within Finland and elsewhere. It is not claimed that the projects discussed are unique or ahead of their time in the field of economic and bu…
